What does Jeen-yuhs mean?
The title of the 2022 Kanye documentary, jeen-yuhs, simply means what it sounds like: genius.
Both a renowned music producer and legendary rapper, Kanye has longtime referred to himself as a genius; whether that be relating to his music, fashion, or daily thoughts and schemes.
A 2009 Urban Dictionary post defines the word ‘jeenyuhs’ as: “slang for genius. something thats cool and creative/ smart.”

In May of 2021, Netflix announced they had acquired the rights to a documentary about Kanye West featuring over 20 years worth of archival footage.
The film would focus on everything – from Kanye’s music and fashion careers, to his 2020 presidential campaign and mother, Donda.
The first act of jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy dropped at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival on January 23.
The following month, part one – VISION – premiered on Netflix.
Part two – PURPOSE – released on February 23, with the third and final installment – AWAKENING – following on March 2.
Jeen-yuhs was directed by cinema duo Coodie & Chike.
Who are Coodie & Chike?
Coodie Simmons and Chike Ozah are two filmmakers known for their work with artists like Kanye, Erykah Badu, and Wale.
Born and raised in Chicago, Coodie got his start in media at a young age by assisting his sister on her local radio show.
He went on to co-found Channel Zero, a public access show highlighting the hip-hop scene in the Windy City.
Chike is from New Orleans, and graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design with a focus in Motion Graphics.
He eventually made his way to New York, working for MTV.
This is where Coodie and Chike first met, and Kanye paired them up to create his music video for Through the Wire.
Since then, the two have established themselves as storytellers and visionaries within the entertainment industry.
