Manchester United have launched an investigation after 12 members of their squad all fell ill on the same day.
According to The Sun, several players and staff members reported feeling unwell on Friday, the morning after their Europa League win over FC Sheriff in Moldova. As many as 12 members of the travelling party are said to have been affected by the outbreak, which is currently being put down to potential food poisoning.
The club are hoping to uncover whether the incident came as a result of something the group ate during their time in Chisinau or on the plane back to England.
Several players missed training on Friday due to the outbreak, before returning to the club’s training ground on Saturday. Meanwhile, others were present Friday before missing Saturday’s session.
The report also states that those affected who had been due to go on international duty have still been allowed to meet up with their national teams.
It is unclear how badly the United squad would have been depleted had their home match against Leeds United this weekend gone ahead as planned.
The match was one of three Premier League matches postponed due to a lack of adequate policing as a result of events surrounding the Queen’s funeral.
