Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka has already been suspended for the entire 2022-23 season, but there’s more bad news for the former small forward.
Udoka’s been the subject of an investigation after news broke that he’d had a consensual but improper relationship with a female staffer, and that investigation concluding and shared its findings this week.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported the law firm behind the investigation said Udoka used crude language when speaking with the staffer – a subordinate to Udoka in the Celtics organization – before the relationship began.
Udoka will remain suspended as former assistant coach Joe Mazulla has taken the reins on an interim basis.
It’s the second coaching change in two years for the team, as Udoka himself enjoyed his first season as head coach in 2021/22.
He’s had a salary cut for this campaign but after taking the Celtics to the playoffs last season he’s still highly-regarded around the organisation, and the team remains one of the favourites to become champions.
The Celtics won’t stop Udoka switching teams, but it’s understood franchises are getting a full understanding of the situation before offering him a role.
