Veteran Ghanaian gospel singer and former president of the Musicians Union of Ghana(MUSIGA), Diana Hopeson has stated that Ghanaians should start giving special attention and credit to gospel musicians for they have played a key role in the industry.
While reacting to the call by Entertainment pundit and artiste Manager Mr Logic as a board member of the VGMA on the idea of excluding gospel musicians from certain award categories in an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra FM, she said she personally do not agree with such suggestion because gospel songs also form a key part of the industry.
Diana Hopeson cited an example that during those days when there was excess coup d’etat in the country which triggered most secular musicians to travel outside, gospel musicians stood on their toes and did a massive job which saved the industry from collapsing.
Diana Hopeson made mention of Tagoe Sisters and other several musicians who stood up and lifted the flag of the Entertainment industry high till there was peace in the country.
According to her, Ghanaians began shifting their attention to the secular musicians after the industry had been saved by gospel musicians in the late ’80s.
