Daniel Amartey finally speaks on controversial penalty against South Africa

Ghana  defender Daniel Amartey has insisted that the penalty that led to the Black Stars’ win over South Africa was a spot on decision made by the referee.

It could be recalled that during Ghana’s world cup qualifiers against South Africa at the Cape Coast stadium,Daniel Amartey was involved in a tussle with Bafana Bafana’s Rushine De Reuck when a corner was swung in.

Daniel Amartey went to the ground after having the South African player held him and the referee awarded a ‘controversial’ penalty to Ghana.

Andrew Ayew who is the Captain of the Black Stars converted the spot kick which saw the Ghana team finish top of Group G.

However,South Afrians have protested against the penalty decision and the country’s FA on monday filed a complaint to FIFA and CAF for the match to be reviewed.

Reacting on the penalty brouhaha,Daniel Amartey has revealed that he was pulled by De Reuck.

Saddick Adams said that the South Africa defender only left him when he was falling on the ground.

“After the game,I asked Amartey about the penalty,he told me he was pulled”

“He said the South African defender held his hand at the back and pulled him but left it when he was fallinf off.The camera didn’t capture that” Saddick Adams posted on Twitter.
