Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta confronts his own fans after miserable Arsenal defeat (Photos)

Cesar Azpilicueta appeared to get into an altercation with Chelsea fans following their Stamford Bridge horror show against Arsenal.

The Blues were fraught with defensive errors after getting thrashed 4-2 at home in the Premier League to give the Gunners a major boost in the Premier League. Mikel Arteta is chasing down a top-four spot and his side are level on points with Tottenham on 57.

But the manner of the victory will be huge for the north London side after losing three on the bounce and returning to form in the best way possible. As for Chelsea, this is another worrying collapse following their last Premier League game at home that ended 4-1 to Brentford.

One of the guilty parties was Azpilicueta, who scored on the night but gave away a needless penalty when he inexplicably hauled Bukayo Saka down in the box. The 20-year-old picked up the ball and slotted past Edouard Mendy late on to make it four and put the game out of Chelsea’s grasp.

And at full-time, Azpilicueta went straight to one section of the crowd and appeared to get into an argument with fans. While one supporter held his hands up and clapped the Blues captain, the Spaniard did not let go.

Speaking after the game, manager Thomas Tuchel was quizzed on his captain’s reaction at Stamford Bridge. The German was seemingly in agreement with the fan and said: “I saw it. Honestly, I can understand the fan.”

While it is not apparent whether there was some form of disagreement between the two, it is not the greatest look after a shambolic performance at home. Azpilicueta was not the only one guilty of defensive errors with Andreas Christensen, Malang Sarr and Marcos Alonso all looking nervy.

It was the Dane that gave away the first goal when he tried a backpass to Edouard Mendy that failed to get anywhere near the goalkeeper while Alonso was in a right-wing position when Arsenal countered and scored through Emile Smith Rowe.

The comedy show at the back continued after the break despite Thiago Silva’s introduction when the Brazilian’s fine challenge on Nketiah was rebounded back into the striker’s path by the hapless Sarr before Azpilicueta’s foul in the box.
